0.8mm Plysolene PIB Thermoplastic Sheeting  is one of the top selling products in the UK with over 40 years long tradition in power stations, oil refineries, airports and chemical works. It is specially designed to provide waterproof wrapping for pipe work and ventilation duct work, manufactured from molecular weight polyisobutylene which enables some very useful characteristics including flexibility, durability, UV and ozone-resistance. It can be used over wide temperature range and it is quite easy to install and use since demanding shapes and joints can simply be cut on site. It is available in standard black colour, but also in white but only for internal applications.

CHARACTERISTICS
  • very flexible and will not harden upon installation;
  • applicable over wide temperature ranges;
  • very easy to cut and install;
  • UV and ozone resistant;
  • very durable and virtually non-ageing.
APPLICATION

Plysolene PIB is used as weatherproof and waterproof sheeting for insulated pipe work and ventilation duct work.

INSTALLATION

Plysolene PIB Sheeting can be easily cut and wrapped around insulated pipe work on site. Make sure to place insulation tightly around the pipe works, since the sheeting is not designed to be used to hold insulation in place. Once properly cut to the right size, the pieces are wrapped around the pipe outer side of insulation, with 80mm endlaps and 500mm sidelaps allowed, underneath the pipes. Plysolene Welding Agent E should be applied to the overlaps on both sides, using a stiff brush, and applying in circular movement, making sure not to apply to much solvent since this can cause premature failure of the sheeting.

When adding Plysolene PIB to duct work, it should be wrapped tightly around insulation, whereas it is advised to use either glass or rock wool insulation, since if polystyrene is used, it is important that all the edges are properly tapped and all sections butt up. Since condensation appearing on the duct work sue to air leaks which can further on damage the entire lagging, it is very important to take care of air leakage prior to installation. If the problem cannot completely be resolved, then it is advised to leave small ventilation holes in the duct work underside which can prevent the moisture building up within the insulation material. Since the product can never provide a fully flat appearance, padding should be prevented with adequate support for both the Plysolene PIB sheeting and insulation. In case you are dealing with large flat surfaces, use 1.0mm or 1.2mm sheeting.
