Airborne Noise Pollution is generated from speech, television or radio and from a non-mechanical activity. Airborne noise will travel through a floor, wall and ceiling structure. It is important that the separating structure is of sufficient and correctly placed mass and volume, for the airborne noise to be reduced.

Flanking Sound Transmission occurs when sound is transmitted from one space to another indirectly, that is, from floors to walls, where they meet.
