Shaft and Duct Encasement System - GypWall Shaft

British Gypsum Shaft and Duct Encasement System, known as GypWall Shaft, is a lightweight, fire‑resistant encasement solution designed for protecting vertical shafts, risers, and service ducts—particularly in areas where access is restricted to one side only. It provides a robust passive fire protection structure that can be installed early in the construction programme, without the need for scaffolding inside the shaft. The system is engineered to meet demanding performance requirements for fire resistance, acoustic insulation, and impact robustness, making it suitable for multi‑storey residential, commercial, and public buildings.

A typical British Gypsum ShaftWall build‑up includes:

• Gypframe ‘I’ Studs (60, 70, 92 or 146 mm depending on height and performance). 
• Gyproc CoreBoard (19 mm) installed between studs and retained with Gypframe Retaining Channels. 
• Optional Isover Acoustic Roll (25 mm) within the cavity for improved sound insulation. 
• Gyproc FireLine or Glasroc F FireCase linings to the accessible side, depending on fire rating requirements. 

Key Features

• Fire resistance from 30 to 120 minutes, tested to BS EN 1364‑1. 
• Acoustic performance typically between 40–52 Rw dB, depending on specification.
