Timber Stud Partition System
Timber Stud Partitions from British Gypsum are non‑loadbearing internal wall systems constructed using timber studs lined with Gyproc plasterboards. They provide a lightweight alternative to masonry, suitable for both new‑build and refurbishment projects. These partitions are widely used in residential buildings and are often specified where fire resistance, sound insulation, and regulatory compliance are required. The systems use 63mm timber studs as standard, with a wide range of lining and insulation combinations available to achieve performance levels including 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes fire resistance to BS EN 1364‑1. Acoustic performance can be further enhanced using Isover Acoustic Partition Roll and upgraded plasterboards such as Gyproc SoundBloc.
A typical British Gypsum timber stud partition includes:
- Timber studs (commonly 63 × 38 mm or 75 × 38 mm).
- Gyproc plasterboard linings, such as:
- Gyproc WallBoard
- Gyproc SoundBloc
- Gyproc FireLine
- Isover Acoustic Partition Roll (APR 1200) in the cavity for improved sound insulation.
- Optional Gypframe RB1 Resilient Bars for enhanced acoustic performance.
Key Features
- Non‑loadbearing lightweight construction, ideal for internal partitions.
- Fire resistance options from 30 to 120 minutes, depending on board and insulation configuration.
- High acoustic performance, with Rw values typically ranging from 34 dB to over 60 dB, depending on specification.
- Suitable for new‑build and refurbishment, including residential applications requiring compliance with Approved Document E (England & Wales) and Section 5 (Scotland).
- Compatible with Isover insulation to enhance sound insulation.
- Fast, modern drylining installation using Gyproc Drywall Screws to minimise fixing defects.
Typical Applications
- Internal partitions in timber frame houses, apartments and residential buildings.
- Refurbishment projects requiring improved acoustic or fire performance.
- Space‑dividing walls in new‑build developments.
- Areas requiring compliance with national building regulations for fire and sound.
