10x10mm Profigips PVC Universal Render Bead with Mesh (often called the Corner Bead with Mesh or simply the Mesh Angle) is the most widely used profile in external wall insulation (EWI) and thin-coat rendering because it solves two problems at once: it creates a perfect corner and provides the necessary reinforcement to prevent cracking. Unlike traditional rigid metal beads that are fixed at 90°, the Profigips PVC Universal Render Bead is engineered with a flexible spine or a hinge-like core. This allows it to adapt seamlessly to the unique geometry of a building.

CHARACTERISTICS

• The profile features two wings of alkali-resistant mesh, typically 100 mm wide. These are embedded into the basecoat on both sides of a corner, ensuring the render skin is continuous and crack-free.
• Perfect for bay windows, hexagonal extensions, or splayed reveals where a standard 90-degree bead simply would not fit.
• It can be compressed to handle sharper corners, which is often a requirement in contemporary architectural designs with pointed features.
• Because the PVC core has a degree of natural flex, it can better accommodate minor structural shifts or slightly out-of-plumb masonry compared to brittle, rigid alternatives.
• Being made of UV-stabilised PVC, it will not degrade in the sun or corrode like old-fashioned metal beads. This is vital for the long-term aesthetics of the façade.
• It works with almost any thin-coat system, including silicone, acrylic, and mineral renders.

APPLICATION

• External Wall Corners: The primary use for every vertical and horizontal corner on a building.
• Window and Door Reveals: Used to create neat, reinforced edges around all openings.
• Step Details: Ideal for architectural features where the wall depth changes.

INSTALLATION

• Apply a generous layer of basecoat mortar to both sides of the corner first. Press the bead into the wet mortar until the render squeezes through the mesh holes.
• Use a spirit level immediately after bedding the bead. You have a few minutes to adjust it before the mortar begins to set.
• Always ensure that the main wall mesh overlaps the mesh wings of the corner bead by at least 100mm. This creates a monolithic, reinforced layer across the whole building.
• Use a wide spatula or trowel to feather the basecoat away from the bead nose, ensuring a smooth transition for the final topcoat.
• When using the bead on a very wide obtuse angle, ensure the mesh wings are pressed firmly into the basecoat to prevent the PVC nose from springing back or bowing.
• When running a long vertical corner that is not 90°, use a template or an angle gauge at several points to ensure the angle remains consistent from the ground to the roofline.
