120mm Profigips Mechanical Insulation Panel Fixings with Metal Pin - Metal Pin Anchors - pack of 200

Length: 120mm
Thickness: 10mm
Pack Quantity: 200

120mm Profigips Mechanical Insulation Panel Fixings with Metal Pin are essential for securing heavier insulation slabs—such as high-density mineral wool—to solid masonry or concrete substrates. The steel pin provides superior pull-out resistance and ensures the insulation stays in place even under extreme stress. These Metal Pin Anchors are designed for applications where the weight of the insulation or the specific fire safety requirements of the building demand a more robust mechanical connection than plastic can provide.

  • Plate Diameter: 60 mm
  • Minimum Embedment: 35mm to 50mm (Substrate dependent)

CHARACTERISTICS

  • The core of the fixing is a zinc-plated or stainless steel nail. When hammered in, it expands the plastic sleeve with significantly more force than a plastic pin, creating a rock-solid grip in the substrate.
  • To prevent thermal bridging (where the metal pin would conduct cold from the outside to the inside), the top of the pin is usually capped with a high-impact plastic head. This ensures the thermal integrity of the insulation layer is maintained.
  • These are the preferred choice for high-rise buildings or areas with high wind loads, as the metal core can withstand much higher shear and tension forces.
  • Metal pin fixings are often a requirement for fire-rated render systems. In the event of a fire, the metal pins will continue to hold the insulation to the wall long after plastic components would have softened or melted.
  • The 60 mm diameter head features a textured or perforated surface, providing an ideal key for the basecoat render to bond to, ensuring a flat and secure finish.

APPLICATION

  • Mineral Wool Insulation: Because mineral wool is significantly heavier than PIR or EPS, metal pin fixings are generally mandatory to support the additional weight.
  • High-Rise Construction: Used on buildings over a certain height (often 11 or 18 metres in the UK, depending on specific regulations) to meet stringent safety and wind-load standards.
  • Refurbishment on Poor Substrates: When fixing into older, less stable masonry, the extra expansion force of the metal pin provides a more reliable fix.

INSTALLATION

  • Always drill the hole 10mm deeper than the fixing length. This ensures that any residual dust does not prevent the metal pin from being driven home fully.
  • Use a standard club hammer to drive the pin. The pin should be driven until the plastic head is flush with the insulation surface. Avoid over-striking, as this can damage the thermal cap.
  • These fixings are ideal for concrete, solid brick, and dense stone. For lightweight aerated blocks, check the manufacturer's pull-out data to ensure the expansion force does not crack the block.
  • Typically installed at a rate of 6 to 8 fixings per square metre, but always refer to the specific wind-load calculation for your project location.
