6mm Marmox Floorbacker Board is a lightweight, single-sided, insulating tile backer board specifically engineered to be a cost-effective solution for flooring applications. It is constructed with a core of extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam, which provides excellent thermal insulation and is completely impermeable to water. This core is then faced on one side only with a robust layer of fibreglass mesh embedded in a polymer cement surface. This cementitious face provides a highly textured surface ready for immediate tiling.

Its primary function is to create a thermal break between the finished tiled surface and the cold substrate beneath (such as concrete or wooden floors). This significantly improves the efficiency of underfloor heating systems by reflecting heat upwards into the room, rather than allowing it to be lost downwards.

CHARACTERISTICS

• Comprised of a high-density, closed-cell Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) core, coated on one side only with a fibreglass-reinforced polymer cement mortar.
• The XPS foam core makes the board completely impermeable to water, acting as a reliable moisture barrier in wet areas.
• Provides excellent thermal resistance, creating a thermal break between the floor finish and the substrate, which significantly improves the efficiency of underfloor heating systems.
• Offers a high compressive strength, typically supporting up to 40 tonnes per square metre (40t/m2) on floors when tiled.
• Functions as an effective decoupling layer, absorbing minor lateral movement in the subfloor to help prevent tiles and grout from cracking.
• The board is easy to handle and can be cut quickly and precisely using a standard utility knife.
• The cement coating is on one side only, making it a highly cost-effective option for solid floor applications compared to the double-sided Marmox Multiboard.

APPLICATION

• Primarily designed for fixing directly over concrete or wooden floors using flexible tile adhesive, providing a stable, insulated, and waterproof base ready for tiling.
