10mm STEICOsound Strip is a high-density, resilient wood-fibre strip designed to be placed between structural elements and floor finishes. It works by absorbing the energy from footsteps or moving furniture, preventing that energy from turning into audible noise in the rooms below. STEICOsound strip is a specialist impact sound insulation strip made from natural wood fibre. It is the critical buffer used in floor constructions to decouple the floor finishes from the structural joists or subfloor, significantly reducing the transmission of footfall noise through the building.

CHARCTERISTICS

  • Because it is made of compressed wood fibres, it has a unique cellular structure that is excellent at absorbing low-frequency impact sounds.
  • Despite its acoustic properties, it is remarkably sturdy. It can support the weight of floorboards and furniture without over-compressing, maintaining its acoustic performance for the life of the building.
  • Like the rest of the Steico range, it is breathable. This is important in timber floor constructions to ensure no moisture is trapped between the strip and the timber joist.
  • It is an ecological alternative to synthetic foam or rubber acoustic strips, made from FSC-certified wood and free from harmful additives.
  • The strips are supplied in a convenient format that can be easily cut to length with a knife or a saw on-site.

APPLICATION

  • Joist Decoupling: Placed directly onto the top of timber floor joists before the floorboards are fixed.
  • Batten Systems: Used beneath timber battens in a floating floor construction to isolate the floor from a concrete or timber subfloor.
  • Acoustic Floor Upgrades: A simple and effective way to improve the sound insulation of existing floors during renovation projects.
