6mm NoMorePly XPS Insulation Backer Board is a lightweight construction material primarily designed as an exceptional substrate for tiling, particularly in areas susceptible to moisture and thermal loss. The board is engineered around a dense core of Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) foam, which is inherently water-resistant and offers excellent thermal properties. This core is then coated on either side with approximately 1mm of a polymer cement mortar that has a glass fibre mesh embedded within it. This composite coating provides high structural stability, superior adhesion for tiles, and a robust surface finish. The board's XPS core is 100% water-resistant, making it the ideal choice for creating watertight surfaces in bathrooms, shower enclosures, wet rooms, and kitchens. When installed correctly using the recommended joint sealant, it eliminates the need for a separate tanking membrane.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Features a high-density, closed-cell Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) core, providing excellent thermal insulation and inherent water resistance.
  • Coated on both sides with a thin layer (approximately 1mm each side) of a polymer-cement mortar reinforced with an embedded glass fibre mesh.
  • The XPS core makes the board completely impermeable to water, making it ideal for wet rooms, bathrooms, and shower areas.
  • Provides a significant thermal break, drastically improving the performance and reducing the running costs of electric underfloor heating systems.
  • Offers a strong, rigid, and stable substrate that will not rot, warp, or weaken like plywood, making it suitable for supporting large and heavy tiles.
  • It is lightweight, clean to handle, and simple to cut using a standard utility knife, allowing for fast installation.

APPLICATION

  • Floors with Underfloor Heating: It is an ideal layer to lay directly onto a subfloor (timber or concrete) beneath electric underfloor heating cables or mats. The thermal insulation prevents heat loss downwards, forcing the warmth up and significantly improving efficiency.
  • Wet Rooms and Bathrooms (Walls and Floors): Due to its 100% water-resistant XPS core, it is perfect for creating a watertight base for tiling in high-moisture areas, including:
    • Shower walls and cubicles.
    • Bathroom walls and floors.
    • Wet room floors and upstands.
