75mm EcoTherm Eco-Cavity Partial Fill PIR Insulation Board is a high-performance, rigid PIR (polyisocyanurate) insulation board specifically engineered for use in traditional masonry cavity walls. This Partial Fill board is designed to be installed against the inner leaf of the wall, leaving a permanent, clear air gap between the insulation and the outer brickwork. This board is the industry standard for achieving high thermal performance in cavity walls while maintaining a traditional clear cavity. By using a high-efficiency PIR core and low-emissivity foil facings, it provides an exceptional thermal barrier that significantly reduces the overall U-value of the wall.

CHARACTERISTICS

• With a thermal conductivity of just 0.022 W/mK, this board is among the most efficient insulation materials available for masonry walls. This allows for thinner wall constructions while still meeting strict building regulations.
• The boards are faced on both sides with a low-emissivity aluminium foil. When facing a clear air gap within the cavity, this foil reflects radiant heat back into the building, further improving the thermal resistance of the overall wall assembly.
• Designed for precise, butt-jointed installation. The square-edge profile allows the boards to be fitted tightly together, creating a continuous thermal layer when properly secured with wall ties and retaining clips.
• The PIR core is naturally water-repellent and does not absorb moisture. This is vital in a cavity environment where the insulation must remain effective even if the outer leaf becomes saturated during heavy rain.
• These rigid boards will not sag or settle over time. Once installed and secured with wall tie clips, they provide a permanent thermal solution for the lifetime of the building.

APPLICATION

• New Build Residential: The primary choice for traditional brick-and-block housing where a clear 50mm cavity is required to prevent moisture ingress.

INSTALLTION

• It is critical to maintain the specified residual air gap (usually 50mm). This gap acts as a vital barrier to prevent any moisture that penetrates the outer leaf from reaching the internal structure.
• Boards should be secured tightly against the inner leaf. Ensure that at least two wall ties are used per board, with retaining clips pushed firmly against the insulation to keep the joints tight and the air gap clear.
• Since these are square-edged boards, they must be butted tightly together in a staggered, break-bond pattern. Any gaps between boards will act as a thermal bridge and reduce the efficiency of the wall.
• Keep the cavity and the top of the insulation boards clear of mortar snots. Any mortar bridging the gap can allow water to track across to the inner leaf, leading to dampness.
• Ensure the first run of insulation starts at least 150 mm below the damp-proof course (DPC) level to minimise heat loss through the floor-to-wall junction.
