Ceresit ZU Insulation and Mesh Adhesive + Base Coat Render for Insulated Render Systems

Ceresit ZU Insulation and Mesh Adhesive + Basecoat for Insulated Render Systems is a cement-based, polymer-modified adhesive specifically designed for fixing white or graphite expanded polystyrene (EPS) or phenolic insulation boards to exterior walls and making a reinforced basecoat. The EPS boards should meet the requirements of external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) according to British Standard EN 13163. Ceresit ZU provides an excellent bond between the insulation and the substrate, whether that is concrete, brickwork, or existing renders. It is also used to embed the reinforcing mesh layer over the insulation, creating a base coat render system. The adhesive is flexible enough to accommodate minor movements in the substrate.

Application and installation of an external wall insulation system

Use for fixing insulation boards:

• Adhesive should be applied with a trowel around the perimeter of the board - band of 3-4cm wide and several blobs in the centre.
• Place the board to the wall and press it down with a long float. Properly applied adhesive after pressing the board to the wall should cover min. 40% of its area.
• The boards should be fixed closely to each other in one plane, with the horizontal joints in different levels.
  

Use as Basecoat for Insulated Render and installing the reinforcing fibreglass mesh:

• Add the adhesive with a 10 or 12 mm notched trowel on the surface of insulation boards.
• Press the mesh on the fresh mortar until it is no longer visible.
• Thin coat render can be made after approx. 24 hours from the application of the reinforcement layer.
