Hush-Mesh Firewire - 1200mm x 50m roll
Hush-Mesh Firewire is a specialised galvanised steel mesh designed to enhance the fire resistance of timber floor constructions, particularly when used in conjunction with their Hush-Slab 100 Sound Absorber. Its primary function is to create a one-hour fire resistance at ceiling level, especially in situations where it's impractical or impossible to apply fire protection directly to the underside of a separating floor (e.g., existing lath and plaster ceilings, or when work can only be carried out from above). This mesh is installed by forming "trays" between timber joists, where it's dressed down the sides of the joists, across the back of the ceiling, and then up the other side and over the top of the next joist. These trays then support the Hush-Slab 100 acoustic insulation, ensuring it remains in place even if the ceiling below becomes compromised during a fire. Hush-Mesh Firewire is a key component in various Hush acoustic systems, helping projects meet stringent UK Building Regulations for both sound insulation (e.g., Approved Document E) and fire safety.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Provides one-hour fire resistance for timber floor constructions at ceiling level.
- Used in conjunction with Hush-Slab 100 Sound Absorber.
- Formed into "trays" between timber joists to support acoustic insulation.
- Allows for fire and acoustic upgrading from the floor above, avoiding disruption to ceilings below.
- Ensures Hush-Slab 100 remains in place even if the ceiling below fails during a fire.
- Helps projects meet UK Building Regulations for both fire safety and sound insulation (e.g., Approved Document E).
- Ideal for refurbishment, conversion, and new build projects requiring enhanced fire and acoustic performance.
APPLICATION
- Ideal for upgrading existing timber floors, especially in older properties with traditional lath and plaster ceilings, or where it's undesirable to disturb the ceiling below.;
- It works in direct conjunction with Hush-Slab 100 acoustic insulation.
- While particularly valuable in refurbishment, it can also be incorporated into new timber floor constructions where efficient installation of fire-rated acoustic infill is desired.
INSTALLATION
- Working at 90 degrees to the direction of the joists, roll out the first length of firewire and start to form trays by dressing it down the side of the first joist, across the back of the ceiling, up the side and over the top of the next joist.
- Continue forming trays across the widths of the joist span, overlapping the edges of each row, ensuring there are no gaps.
- Fix the firewire to the sides and tops of the joists using 16mm staples or similar.
