20mm STEICO Protect Reveal is a rigid, vapour-open wood-fibre insulation board designed for use in ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) applications. It is the designated substrate for render in the critical areas of window reveals, door returns, and soffits, where space is limited but thermal performance is still essential. The STEICO Protect Reveal board is a high-density, wood-fibre render carrier board specifically designed for the "finishing touches" of an external wall insulation system. While the main walls use thicker T&G boards, the Reveal board is engineered to be slim enough to fit into the tight spaces around window frames and door openings.
CHARCTERISTICS
- Slim Profile: Typically supplied in a 20mm thickness, allowing it to be installed against window and door frames without obscuring the frame or interfering with the opening mechanism.
- High Density & Impact Resistance: These boards are manufactured to a very high density (approx. 265kg/m³). This provides a robust, stable surface that can withstand the physical knocks and bumps common around doorways and window sills.
- Direct Render Carrier: The surface is specifically prepared to act as a high-grip substrate for breathable lime or silicone-based render systems.
- Thermal Bridge Prevention: By insulating the reveals, it eliminates the "cold bridge" that often occurs at the junction between the window frame and the masonry, drastically reducing the risk of internal mould growth.
- Water Repellent: Impregnated with natural paraffin (wax), the board is weather-resistant during the construction phase while remaining fully vapour-permeable.
APPLICATION
- Window and Door Reveals (The Primary Use) - This is the "return" or the side of the wall that goes from the outer face of the building back towards the window or door frame.
- Window and Door Heads (The Underside) - Installed on the underside of the lintel or the top part of the window opening.
- Roof Soffits and Eaves - In certain designs where the external wall insulation needs to continue up and under an overhanging roof or eave.
- Slim Columns and Architectural Details - If the building has narrow decorative pillars, corner details, or small protrusions where using a thick board would look bulky or out of proportion.
