The Speedline SSMF6A Perimeter Channel is a specialist profile metal section used to establish the boundary and seating for a suspended metal furring (MF) ceiling system. It is a critical component that interacts directly with the wall structure. The SSMF6A is described as a U-shaped steel section with uneven legs. It is an open channel, meaning the shape allows the ends of the primary and secondary ceiling channels to sit neatly inside it. It is manufactured from cold-rolled, thin-gauge, pre-galvanised steel, ensuring long-term resistance to corrosion.

The asymmetrical U-profile ensures it performs its boundary functions effectively:

• Level Setting: It is fixed horizontally around the entire perimeter of the room at the desired finished ceiling height, establishing the dead-level plane for the whole system.
• Perimeter Support: The channel is fixed to the wall using suitable fasteners (e.g., drywall screws into studwork or hammer-fixings into masonry). It provides secure support for the ends of the main structural components, typically the SSMF7 Primary Channels and the SSMF5 Ceiling Channels, where they run into the wall line.
• Concealment and Finish: The lower, wider flange provides a surface to which the plasterboard lining is directly fixed at the ceiling edge.
