Speedline SSMF7 Metal Furring Ceiling Channel - Primary Channel - 3600mm length

The Speedline SSMF7 Primary Channel is the most critical structural part, as it is responsible for supporting the entire weight of the ceiling grid and the plasterboard lining. The SSMF7 is a deep, sturdy channel, typically featuring a broad, flat base and two vertical legs, often described as an inverted U-channel or Trough Channel. This shape is optimised to provide high rigidity and resistance to vertical deflection (sagging). It is manufactured from cold-rolled, pre-galvanised steel, ensuring long-term durability and corrosion resistance. The depth of the channel and its robust gauge are engineered for load-bearing capacity and span performance.

The SSMF7's primary role is to serve as the main structural spine of the suspended system:

• Suspension and Load Bearing: The SSMF7 channels run in one direction (the primary direction) and are the only part of the grid to be directly suspended from the structural soffit (concrete, steel, or timber) above. This suspension is typically achieved using hangers, such as the Rigid Angle Hangers (SSL06) or wire hangers, which are connected via Soffit Cleats (AMF12B).
• Supporting the Secondary Grid: The SSMF7 provides the support structure for the lighter, secondary channels—the SSMF5 Ceiling Channels. These SSMF5 channels are connected to the underside of the SSMF7 channels using Connecting Clips (AMF9B), which hook over the SSMF7 and clip into the SSMF5.
• Maintaining Level: Because the SSMF7 is securely fixed and levelled during installation, it ensures the entire ceiling frame remains flat and true over the full expanse of the room, preparing the surface perfectly for the seamless plasterboard lining.
