10mm A2 Versapanel Cement Bonded Particle Board is a specialised structural board manufactured from a mixture of wood particles, Portland cement, and additives. Its standout feature is its A2-s1, d0 fire rating, making it a non-combustible solution suitable for high-rise buildings and safety-critical infrastructure. It is essentially the "heavyweight" of structural boards, combining the strength and fire resistance of cement with the flexibility and ease of use of timber-based panels.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • A2 Fire Performance: Classified as non-combustible (A2-s1, d0). This means it contributes negligible heat to a fire and produces little to no smoke or flaming droplets, meeting the strict requirements of UK Building Regulations for relevant buildings over 11m (or 18m depending on specific local guidance).
  • Moisture & Weather Resistance: Unlike standard chipboard or plywood, Versapanel is highly resistant to moisture, rot, and fungal attack. It can be used in "semi-exposed" conditions during construction without losing its structural integrity.
  • Impact Resistance: Due to its high density, it is incredibly tough and impact-resistant. This makes it ideal for high-traffic areas where durability is as important as fire safety.
  • Acoustic Performance: The sheer mass of the board provides excellent sound insulation, making it a popular choice for floors and party walls to reduce noise transfer.
  • Smooth Surface: It is factory-sanded on both sides, providing a smooth, flat finish that is ready for the application of adhesives, paints, or decorative finishes.

APPLICATION

  • Rainscreen Cladding Substrate: Used as a high-strength sheathing board behind cladding systems (like those supported by the Plastestrip frames we discussed).
  • Modular & Off-site Construction: A staple in factory-built units where a durable, fire-rated structural lining is required.
  • Fire-Rated Internal Walls: Ideal for lift shafts, escape routes, and service ducts.
  • Acoustic Flooring: Used as a structural floor deck to meet Part E (Acoustics) of the Building Regulations.

Installation Note

  • Weight: Because it is cement-bonded, these boards are heavy. Mechanical lifting or a two-person lift is usually required.
  • Cutting: You will need tungsten carbide-tipped (TCT) or diamond-tipped blades. Standard wood blades will dull very quickly against the cement content.
  • Fixing: Stainless steel screws are recommended, especially in external or damp environments, to prevent corrosion.

CERTIFICATION

  • A2 Versapanel has been independently tested as A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire according to BS EN 13501-1.
  • Conformity assessed according to BS EN 13986:2004+A1:2015
