Roof Insulation

Thermal roof insulation is usually installed to improve thermal performance of the house (reduce heating and cooling of space). This in turn reduces energy use to make the house warm. It also reduces carbon dioxide emission to make the house more environmentally friendly and also reduces energy cost. The advantages of installing roof insulation are the increase in living space (converted lofts) and the elimination of condensation on roof surfaces during cold temperatures.

The roof insulation must be installed dry and be kept in this state. When installing board and batt type roof insulation, gaps should not be left as they minimize roof insulation effectiveness. Other factors influencing roof insulation effectiveness include temperature cycling, vibrations, and other similar mechanical forces. The functionality of your roof membrane is also crucial. If you cannot install roof insulation correctly, you will seriously impair its efficiency.

Two types of roof are most commonly found in commercial and residential settings: Flat Roof and Pitched Roof.

Flat Roof

Flat roof can be constructed to create what is called a ‘warm roof’ or a ‘cold roof’ depending on the position of the insulation installed. Inverted roof construction is also used in flat roofs exposed to high temperatures.

Pitched Roof

Depending on the design two types of pitched roof can be found: with a ceiling and without a ceiling. Pitched roofs also use cold and warm specification. These can be further classified into cold breathing, cold ventilated, warm breathing and warm ventilated roofs.

Insulationhsop.co offers a wide range of flat and pitched roof insulation from the manufacturers: Celotex, Xtratherm, Knauf, Kay Metzeler, Cellecta and others. For more information about the particular products please see product description.
